Like real-time traffic data revolutionized how we drive, Pepper’s platform reveals hazards and roadblocks on the route to developing a new drug. We integrate phosphoproteomic data with genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data to surface a truly global, functional, and causal understanding of biological function. Leveraging deep, unique insights on the entire scope of biology, Pepper can enable more efficient development of safe and efficacious therapies for cancers, neurodegenerative diseases, and inflammatory diseases.
What is the problem?
Drug discovery is flawed. With a three percent success rate and a sticker price of more than $2B, it’s a very high-risk investment. Biology is highly complex, creating many challenges when attempting to predict what drives a disease or how individual patients will react to a drug. Because of this, many drug candidates fail their clinical trials due to being ineffective or causing intolerable side effects. Fundamentally, this stems from three key challenges - (1) a lack of understanding of biological activity, (2) drug developers failing to look at all relevant signaling pathways, and (3) mistaking correlation with causation. As a result, drug developers are forced to make costly guesses when designing a drug, which often results in the drug’s failure. To help the industry make more informed decisions and create more effective treatments, we need a better biological understanding of both disease and drug. That’s where Pepper’s transomics platform comes in.
What is their solution?
We address and solve the three fundamental challenges that drug developers face. We provide a deep understanding of biological activity – of what’s actually happening in biology. We do it in a global, unbiased fashion without pre-selecting any particular pathways. Lastly, through our transomics approach, we can strip out a lot of the noise in the data to develop a more causal understanding of biology. By unlocking a new form of transomics drug discovery, we’re creating a future where more conditions are effectively treated – including those historically considered to be untreatable. Pepper Bio is building a future where everyone diagnosed with a disease will have a treatment that works for them.
